Hi Guys.

Need some advice. My Corsa's engine needed a camshaft replacement which was done earlier this week. The engine had a bad case of sludge. My friend took the entire head with the manifolds still fitted to his workshop to wash it in a type of washing machine he normally uses for cleaning machinery parts.

We put the engine back together and added some engine flush. We started the engine and it idled just perfect. After a while the revs started climbing gradually to about 3500 rpm. We thought it was just the junk burning loose and drained the old oil. we changed the filter and added new oil. When we started the engine the revs were still up there.

We checked to see if we missed any sensors or pipes, but all seemed fine. His wife also drives a Corsa 1.4 so we removed her ICV and fitted it to my engine, but the revs remained high.

Yesterday I removed the rubber pipe from the Throttle Body, and closed the hole as well as block the breather pipe from the tappit cover. The car stalled.

Except for the ICV and the TPS sensors that went into the wash with the head, we haven't touched any of the other sensors.

I also did a master reset of the ECU by disconnecting the terminals of the battery for 24 hours. But this did not help.

What can cause the engine to rev so high?
